Description
Tyvek® is the name of a family of durable, high-strength sheet products made by DuPont from 100% pure high-density polyethylene (HDPE).
More information
Tyvek® is made by first spinning continuous, very fine, interlocking fibres, which are then bonded together with heat and pressure. The result is a bright white spunbonded sheet that combines a good printing surface with high opacity, chemical resistance and strength.
Tyvek® has no grain direction, is corona-treated on both sides to improve ink adhesion, and is coated with an anti-static agent to make converting easier.
Common uses
In conservation, museum and collection management professionals use Tyvek® 1443 widely as a protective, non-abrasive, spore-repelling and dust-proof barrier for textiles, furniture, paintings and many kinds of objects and artefacts. Tyvek® 1443 is used to support large objects during conservation treatment, to make protective enclosures and to make identification tags attached to stored objects.
In industry, Tyvek® is used in construction as a lining material, and in the packaging and printing industries as a substrate for making particularly durable and strong packaging and promotional products.
